HAH: THE EVENT
Almost five years ago, the Orlando Pulse tragedy occurred and hateful comments made about it in the haunt community sparked the genesis of Haunters Against Hate.
What started out as a simple statement has evolved into a non-profit corporation that
gives haunters a voice to express themselves and the challenges they face in life and in the haunt community.
In this climate where there is so much hatred and distrust, Haunters Against Hate is there to listen to our fellow haunters and always have a positive and encouraging word or helping hand when needed.
Now, Haunters Against Hate is putting together this special weekend event, which combines a horror and haunt con with an LGBTQ festival to celebrate pride, horror and scaring, with the ultimate goal to make everyone feel
accepted and welcome, whether being LGBTQ or an ally.
And to give back to the community by donating the profits (after expenses) to various LGBTQ youth organizations.
NOTE: WE WILL BE CONSTANTLY WATCHING WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH COVID-19 AND THE ROLLOUT
OF THE VACCINE. IT IS OUR HOPE THAT BY END OF JULY, THE VIRUS WILL BE UNDER CONTROL. OF COURSE, MASKS, SOCIAL DISTANCING, AND HAND SANITIZERS WILL BE READY. THESE EVENTS TAKE MONTHS TO PLAN, SO IT'S A GRAY AREA, BUT WE ARE TRULY HOPEFUL.
Awards
There will be an awards ceremony on July 31st at 6pm with 3 awards being given out.
The first is the HAH Legacy Award presented to Lori Cardille (Romero's "Day of the Dead") for her advocacy and promotion of Haunters Against Hate and LGBTQ rights.
The second is the HAH Haunter of the Year Award presented to the haunter who stood up and showed courage in the face of hate: a true Haunter Against Hate. This award is chosen by Haunters Against Hate.
The third is the Jesse McDonald HAH Memorial Award to a haunter who embodies Jesse's views of compassion, tolerance and acceptance and will honor his legacy as a haunter. If you wish to nominate a haunter for this award, please email with the haunter and attraction they work at and why you think they deserve the award. HAH will review all submissions and select who will be given the award.
Recipients of HAH Haunters of the Year and Jesse McDonald HAH Memorial Award will be announced online well before the event.
